We are looking for a community builder and a project leader.
Summary: The Sawmill Museum is seeking an ambitious and organized Executive Director to lead the museum into its next phase as both a local landmark and a cultural district anchor. This role is ideal for someone with experience in project management, nonprofit leadership, or placemaking who wants to help shape and activate a historic campus while delivering quality programming inside the museum.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and drive strategic plans for the museum and surrounding campus development
- Manage and mentor part-time staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of accountability and inclusion
- Execute community-centered programming that preserves local history while pushing innovation
- Write and manage grants, budgets, museum exhibits, fundraising campaigns, and capital project proposals
- Represent the museum at city meetings, grant reviews, museum exhibits, and networking events
- Oversee physical upkeep of building and campus—including maintenance projects and long-term planning
Ideal Candidate Has:
- Experience in nonprofit management, community development, or project coordination
- Ability to juggle long-term planning with day-to-day tasks
- Confidence in networking with donors, city officials, and other leaders
- Passion for storytelling, neighborhood identity, and historic preservation
- Strong organizational habits and follow-through
